From building dens and discovering wildlife to creating natural artwork, outdoor learning gives children opportunities to explore, develop skills and celebrate their achievements.
Junior ChangeMakers CIC has designed a series of Achievements in the Outdoors books in partnership with Chaddesley Corbett Endowed Primary School. The books form the basis of the school’s outdoor learning programme, setting out outcomes and achievements for children to work towards at each stage.
Each book follows the same eight learning areas, with achievement statements tailored to the children’s stage of learning:
-
Outdoor Safety
-
Outdoor Skills
-
Outdoor Values
-
Outdoor Creativity
-
Outdoor History & Heritage
-
Understanding the World Outdoors
-
Outdoor Discovery
-
Outdoor Personal Skills
Together, these areas encourage children to build practical skills, express their creativity, explore their surroundings and develop independence. The books capture what children can do and what they have experienced, recognising their progress through outdoor learning.
EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2 use A3 class recording books, with space to record shared experiences and achievement stickers to celebrate progress. In Upper Key Stage 2, each pupil has their own book, creating a personal record of their outdoor achievements.
